(4) : In Time (2011)

Film Review (4) : In Time (2011)

This is the Sci-fi movie starred by Justin Timberlake as Will Salas
and Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis.

It is basically about the people live in the world that they use time as a currency.

They do not get old after they turned the age of 25,
but they live minute by minute under the timekeepers' control.

People buy stuffs by deposing certain amount of time they have.
But if they lack of enough time, they die immediately as time turns 00:00
There's this saying "Time is money" and this shows exactly how they work.
This motif was very refreshing and totally new experience to me.

Will Salas has gained lots of time that he is actually not affordable at all.
So he decided to move to the Greenwich to live with the rich people.
There, he met Sylvia, the daughter of the wealthiest man in the country.
She is a person who does not know how the life of ghetto seems to be.

Due to Will's help, she experienced the real life of ghetto and faced how poor people live.
Later on, she ran away with Will. They wanted to redistribute the wealth.

This movie precisely shows about the huge economical gap between the rich and poor.
Rich people become richer and poor people become poorer.

The people in ghetto lives minute by minute under timekeeper's control whereas the rich people they save huge amount of time in their safe and often party, of course, they do not get any control from the timekeeper.

Watching this part, reminded me of the Wall St. demonstration, which happened in the United States. People were demonstrating that rich people gets richer when the poor people gets poorer. Also, not long ago, life in Korea was similar to this. People working in KIA, were demonstrating because of their wages and benefits provided. Rich people are getting richer and poor people remain the same or even worse.

Sylvia went to Greenwich to free the time which were kept in her father's bank, to the people in ghetto.

I think the economical gap between rich and poor are the unsolved homework for the politicians president, and also for the multinational companies, everywhere in the world.

The candidates of the election promises for the better economy. But it is uneasy to be. And according to the movie, it seemed that rich people tend to have the benefits themselves only.

I think it would make a better economy if they could pay the tax at the right amount and share or donate.

(3) : Milk (2008)

This movie is a biography of Harvey Milk.

The story starts from NYC but as Harvey moves to Castro District, San Francisco, most of the story takes place there. Castro is the most well known gay neighborhood.

As the movie starts, Harvey turns 40 years old and he feels that he has done nothing so far in his entire life. So Harvey opens a camera shop in Castro with his partner, Scott.
But they got rejected to get the business license because they are gay.

This became the main reason that he starts out the demonstration of the gay rights.    He gets a lot of supports from other gay people in the city and finally becomes the very first gay man to be elected as a local politician, and also an activist.

Due to his activity, the city, Castro District, becomes the symbol of gay and homo sexual people in the United States.

Dan White, who is also the politician, is the notorious supervisor of the San Francisco government. He was against to Harvey and his works and things didn't worked as he thought. He has resigned after Harvey gets more supports from the people. But he wanted to recall his resign at his office and since it didn't worked as what he planned, he murdered Harvey Milk, the first elected homosexual politician, and the mayor of the San Francisco in 1978. But unfairly, he served only a few years in prison because he was close with the police and the juries in the law court.

In this film, it also shows that Harvey has faced the experience of his partners' suicide while he was working and serving as the activist and also as the politician. His partners' suicide is because homosexuals often can't control themselves. And they struggle with their identity.

Harvey wanted to show homosexual people that their cause was not a hopeless one and similarly bring the light to the public as a whole about homosexuality.

Homosexuals are the same human being just like us, so called 'straight'. But only few cities allowed their marriage these days or to-be legalize.

Today, the trial regarding the gay marriage is the hot potato in United States that even the free audience tickets were sold in a very expensive price few weeks ago.
In my opinion, I think we should try to accept them as how they are.

Sean Penn's acting made my hair stand on the end. He really looked like Harvey Milk, that made me astonished. You can notice this by comparing the picture of the 'real' Harvey Milk and Sean Penn from the poster.

Personally, I love to watch the biography films. Although the story of this film was mainly about the gay people and their rights, I really enjoyed watching it. It was touching to see that gay people try to find their rights rather than struggling from their identity.
Lastly, Harvey's famous line "My name is Harvey Milk, and I want to recruit you" keep remains on my mind.
